Diabetes is on the rise, yet most cases are
preventable with healthy lifestyle changes. Some can even be reversed.
Taking steps to prevent and control diabetes doesn’t mean living in
deprivation. While eating right is important, you don’t have to give up
sweets entirely or resign yourself to a lifetime of bland “health food”.
With these tips, you can still enjoy your favorite foods and take
pleasure from your meals without feeling hungry or deprived.

Heart Healthy Diet Tips
Weight control and regular
exercise are critical for keeping your heart in shape—but the food you
eat may matter just as much. A heart-healthy diet can reduce your risk
of heart disease or stroke by 80%. By understanding which foods and
methods of cooking are healthiest for your heart, you may be able to
prevent or manage heart disease and high blood pressure, and take
greater control over the quality and length of your life.
Weight Problems and Obesity in Children
The number of children who are
obese or overweight is growing at an alarming rate. Extra pounds put
kids at risk of serious health problems, including diabetes, heart
disease, and asthma. Childhood obesity also takes an emotional toll.
Overweight children are frequently teased and excluded from team
activities, which can lead to low self-esteem, negative body image, and
depression. However, with the right support, encouragement, and positive
role modeling, you can help your child reach and maintain a healthy
weight.
Healthy Weight and Diet Tips
In our eat-and-run,
massive-portion-sized culture, maintaining a healthy weight can be
tough—and losing weight, even tougher. If you’ve tried and failed to
lose weight before, you may believe that diets don’t work for you.
You’re probably right: traditional diets don’t work—at least not in the
long term. However, there are plenty of small but powerful ways to avoid
common dieting pitfalls, achieve lasting weight loss success, and
develop a healthier relationship with food.
Healthy Eating
Healthy eating is not about strict dietary
limitations, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the
foods you love. Rather, it’s about feeling great, having more energy,
and stabilizing your mood. If you feel overwhelmed by all the
conflicting nutrition and diet advice out there, you’re not alone. It
seems that for every expert who tells you a certain food is good for
you, you’ll find another saying exactly the opposite. But by using these
simple tips, you can cut through the confusion and learn how to create a
tasty, varied, and healthy diet.

Eating (diet)
All humans have to eat food for growth and maintenance of a healthy
body, but we humans have different requirements as infants, children
(kids), teenagers, young adults, adults, and seniors. For example,
infants may require feeding every four hours until they gradually age
and begin to take in more solid foods. Eventually they develop into the
more normal pattern of eating three times per day as young kids.
However, as most parents know, kids, teenagers, and young adults often
snack between meals. Snacking is often not limited to these age groups
because adults and seniors often do the same.

The Paleo Diet
Eat like a caveman and shed pounds. That's the theory behind the Paleo Diet.
Loren Cordain, PhD, who literally wrote the book on The Paleo Diet, claims that by eating like our prehistoric ancestors, we’ll be leaner and less likely to get diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and other health problems.
Also called the Caveman Diet or the Stone Age diet, it’s basically a high-protein, high-fiber eating plan that promises you can lose weight without cutting calories.
Raspberry Ketones
Maybe you've heard the claim that raspberry ketone supplements can melt away fat and prevent weight gain -- even if your diet is high in fat. But what are they, and can they really do that?
Raspberry
ketones are natural chemicals that give raspberries their enticing
aroma. When ketones are taken from raspberries, they can be used to add
fragrance and flavor to things such as colas, ice cream, and cosmetics.
Experts say that investing in a bottle of raspberry ketone supplements amounts to little more than wishful thinking. And it may or may not be harmful.
The Flat Belly Diet
Eat fat and lose weight. That's the promise of the Flat Belly Diet.
Now for the fine print: The kind of fat
matters. The plan focuses on monounsaturated fats, which you get from
olive oil, nuts, and other plant foods.
Authors Liz Vaccariello and Cynthia Sass, MPH, RD,
claim that in 32 days, you can lose up to 15 pounds and drop belly fat
by following their plan:
The Lemonade Diet/ Master Cleanse
Celebrities including Beyoncé have used this diet. But it's far from the principles of healthy eating, and the results aren't likely to last.
The Lemonade Diet, also called the Master Cleanse,
is a liquid-only diet consisting of three things: a lemonade-like
beverage, salt-water drink, and herbal laxative tea.
The claim is simple: Give it 10 days (or more) and you’ll drop pounds, "detox" your digestive system, and feel energetic, vital, happy, and healthy. You’ll also curb cravings for unhealthy food.
It all started with Stanley Burroughs’s book, The Master Cleanser. There are many variations, and Peter Glickman continues Burroughs’s legacy with his own book, Lose Weight, Have More Energy and Be Happier in 10 Days, and web site.
DHEA Supplements
DHEA supplements are used by some people who believe
they can improve sex drive, build muscle, fight the effects of aging,
and improve some health conditions. But there isn't much evidence for
many of these claims. And the supplements have some risks.
Here's a rundown of what science actually knows about DHEA supplements and what you need to know about their safety.
What Is DHEA?
DHEA (dehydroepiandrosterone) is a hormone produced by your body's adrenal glands. These are glands just above your kidneys.
DHEA supplements can be made from wild yam or soy.
Scientists don't know everything DHEA does. But they
do know that it functions as a precursor to male and female sex
hormones, including testosterone and estrogen. Precursors are substances
that are converted by the body into a hormone.
DHEA production peaks in your mid-20s. In most people, production gradually declines with age.
Testosterone and estrogen production also generally
declines with age. DHEA supplements can increase the level of these
hormones. That's why a number of claims have been made about their
potential health benefits.
The Truth About Detox Diets
Do you need a detox diet -- really?
They're popular, but they aren't proven to do what
they say they'll do: flush toxins out of your system. In fact, they may
be risky and even backfire.
Still thinking about it? You should know this first.
Weight Loss & Diet Plans
Are you ready to train and eat like people on the NBC TV show The Biggest Loser, but without cameras following you around 24-7?
You can do a similar plan at home to lose weight, get stronger, feel better, and help lower your cholesterol and blood pressure. It could transform your life -- if you're ready for the intense commitment.
The 3 Day Diet
These days, when even instant cereal isn’t fast enough, we want weight loss
now, not later. And who could argue with dropping the weight of a large
laptop in just one long weekend? The 3 Day Diet promises exactly that.
If you’ve been struggling to budge the scale and you’re tempted to try it, here are the details you need to know.
The diet, aimed at people wanting to lose a lot of weight, claims you’ll drop up to 10 pounds if you follow it for three days.
The menu consists of three breakfasts, lunches,
and “dinners” -- if you consider a cup of tuna fish or two hot dogs,
plus fruit and vegetable sides, dinner.
One web site that markets the diet claims it’s
“chemically and enzyme balanced,” though this statement isn’t explained
or supported.
One thing is clear: You won’t be eating much. On Day 1, you get just 870 calories. Days 2 and 3 aren’t much different.
